ellebogen op tafel elbows on the table

Leading up to the turn of the year I started a new series. It's all about memories of the time I spend
at the kitchen table in my parental house. Mom often cooked chinese dinners, which I disliked very much.
So I ended up spending many evenings staring at the plates and dishes, hoping they all would magically disappear.
They didn't.

Like most of my artwork, these are cross-over analoge/digital collages.
The forms are a bit geometrical with a sense of odd perspective.
The faded colours and blurred shapes add to the aspect of reminisce.
The pieces hint to those lomographic polaroids back in the 70's and 80's the era of my youth.

vliegeren bij maanlicht kiting by moonlight

INTERACTION WITH HILDA KLAASSEN, ARTIST | Over and over again intervening and responding to each other's thoughts. Interactions, portrayed in a temporary setting. Thus, this series of photographic night thoughts titled 'Kiting by Moonlight' arose. A name that stands for exploring the space between waking and sleeping. A border area in which other forces rule. Where time and logic play no role. Where the strangest ideas bubble up and magical images appear, fragmented stories are told and all thoughts are almost elusive.

The series of nine 10x10 cm pieces is being showed in the group exhibit 'XSmall'
Join us for the opening at April 1st, 8-10pm!

03.16 momento mori

voor de stilte | persoonlijk tijdsdocument
before the silence | personal timedocument

A triptych dedicated to the loss of someone close.
To the process of reminisce before grieve and how the announcement of a near death shakes and stirs everything like a snowbowl.
The world is still the same and yet everything is different.

This triptych explores the importance that the making process has on my artwork. I almost always begin with some sort of loose composition of shapes or texture as an underlayer. When making a body of work I reuse elements of the initial piece in the following onces. Previously these shapes were often buried and indistinguishable once the artworks were complete. With Momento Mori I have deliberately left parts of the initial shapes in the completed pieces. This enables the viewer to see the history of my workprocess as well as giving a visual sense of family ties between the individual pieces. I feel this emphasize the momento mori theme - it's all connected: the circle of life.

an impression of my workprocess is also shown in this video

Diptych, analoge/digital crossover collage refurring to a story about a boy building himself a wau buia, a moonkite. He uses the kite for protection against the unseen hazards of the night. The transparancy and overlaying used suggests that there's more than meets the eye...
